What is the percentage of time a wake athlete is on time down to the dock to ride or when their heat starts? These days I feel that’s probably a pretty high percentage, but of course 15 plus years ago they were always late. So this team happening is late, just like all the wakers were of my generation.
Also, I figured that waiting til Thursday would help me bring back one of Instagram’s original hashtags, #TBT. So yes I thought for this week we would do a little Throwback Thursday to the Cable Mekka Awards.
This award show is held during the world’s largest boat show in Dusseldorf, Germany. And really is the premier wake awards show even though it is primarily for Germans and Europeans. But you know team LF knows how to dominate anything we do, so of course our squad cleaned up.
Legends Nico and Felix won web video of the year with their insane winch hits in Brink. Incase you need a refresher, here it is:
Notable hits are Nico’s closeout handrail hits and Felix’s wild closer. Which also constitutes why Felix won winch rider of the year. Foama was unreal, and they premiered Foama 2 there, cannot wait to see it Felix! Yea boys, congrats again on such a sick part!
German LF athlete Tobias Farbers won most improved rider of the year and it’s very obvious why. Definitely check out his part in the corrugated tubes part he has clips in the was filmed at Langenfeld. Congrats Tobias!
Matty Muncey damn near won Alliance rider of the year, so winning European standout of the year was just so fitting and an obvious given. Matty put out so many parts this year and was unreal behind the lens and in the editing room too. I still think about that tail grabbed KGB winch closer hit……..Congrats Matty!
Lastly another talented athlete both on the water and behind the lens, Nicklas Dorfer won Mekka Hero of the Year! Nicklas is such a fun one to watch and has been ripping for years. Congrats Nicklas!
I have the feeling you will see all these athletes at LAO later on this year. Start putting down bets on these names in the finals and if not on the podium also.
